Felix Neck and Sharky’s Cantina are working together to educate people about the connection between what they eat or drink and the natural world around us. For example, bats pollinate the cactus and agave plants that tequila is distilled from, so without bats, there would be no margaritas.

Felix Neck proposed the idea of a “Batty Benefit” to Sharky’s owner J.B. Blau, who was very willing to help coordinate an event to benefit Felix Neck and show his support for the organization. The benefit is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Sharky’s in Edgartown. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., there will be a cocktail party with free passed appetizers and a margarita bar on the patio. Educational materials will be provided to help customers understand the connection between pollinators and our food supply. From 6:30 p.m. on, normal dinner service will resume inside the restaurant, with 30 per cent of all food sales donated to Felix Neck.

This opportunity to engage year-round Islanders in Felix Neck’s education and conservation work will be the kickoff to a yearlong partnership and a new margarita flavor at Sharky’s: purchase the new Felix Neckarita and $1 from each drink sale will benefit Felix Neck.
