Welcome back to Aquinnah police officer Ryan Ruley, who returned this week following nearly a two-year absence. Officer Ruley and his wife, Kristine, have recently returned to the Vineyard.

All the best to officer Ryan Maher, who will begin with the Milford Police Department this week. Officer Maher had graduated from the Worcester Police Academy in March and worked for the Aquinnah, Chilmark and West Tisbury police departments during the summer. Officer Maher had one of the greatest vantage points at Lobsterville during the visit of President Obama and the First Family on their tour of Aquinnah in August.

In the meantime, officer Ryan Natachioni will continue assisting for the next few months. There must really something very synonymous with officer Ryan and the Aquinnah Circle, especially in the summer.

The annual Halloween party held at the Aquinnah Town Hall on Saturday evening was a great time for one and all to enjoy. All the children were the winners for the evening while they enjoyed bowling with the pumpkins, painting pumpkins, a crayon table for coloring, a beanbag toss game, and especially trying to capture a doughnut on a string. Thank you especially to Aquinnah community programs committee member Betty Joslow and her ghoulish goblin assistants, Jeffrey Burgoyne, Paul and Theresa Manning, Alex Moore, Camille Rose, Heidi Vanderhoop, Jamie Vanderhoop and Woody Vanderhoop. Thank you to the very generous donor, who prefers to remain anonymous, for the cash prizes for the little ones.

Those trick or treaters who ventured out of town for the evening included Leah Bassett, Meadow Bassett, Kara Taylor and Aquinnah Witham, who collectively won second place at the Mediterranean Restaurant for their provocative costumes. Shawn MacPhail won first place at the Oyster Bar for his Miss Up-Island costume.

The Aquinnah Public Library re-opened in the school house on Tuesday afternoon. Friends of Aquinnah Public Library and the library trustees were on hand to welcome everyone. It is a totally different atmosphere; the walls are newly painted, the new floor is installed, and there is a new work area for binding books. The old school chalk boards are prominently evident behind some of the open shelving, but for one who attended the school in the early 1950s, it was just not the same warm and cozy feeling we have had for years.

Get well wishes to Madeline Moreis, who was admitted to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Wednesday and is expected home early in the week.

Get well wishes to Edwin D. Vanderhoop who remains a patient at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.
