I think Indian summer is upon us. Once the rain is gone Friday, the weather is supposed to be in the mid 60s this weekend. It makes raking leaves a nicer job.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. I did not get this month’s birthday list but watch for this and next week’s wishes.

Happy anniversary wishes go out to Jake Bassett and Gretchen Wean who celebrated their third anniversary on Oct. 31. Here is to many more years together.

It seems there was another reward for Team Bettencourt, who walked the Step Out Walk for Diabetes. It seems that the event was given two tickets to the Patriots game. So the committee randomly picked a week and chose the person who had the highest donations of that week. The winner was Erika Bettencourt. She is thrilled, and what was more exciting is that husband Tony, who shares season tickets, is going to the same game on Dec. 27, and the seats that Erika won are only a few seats away from Tony. So it seems that these were meant to be. Once again congratulations to Team Bettencourt.

Tonight, Friday, is the fundraiser for the Jack and Kim D’Arcy family who lost their house in a fire last month. The event starts at 6 at Nectar’s at the airport. There will be an auction and a silent auction and entertainment will be provide by Mike Benjamin and by the Sultans of Swing with Joanne Cassidy singing. Wear your dancing shoes because this band knows how to get people out on the floor dancing. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

The Edgartown School play this year is The Wizard of Oz, and it’s on at the school tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m. On Saturday there is also a dinner offered at 6 p.m. Please call 1-508-939-9368 if you would like to come for dinner. For the play, you can get tickets at the door. It’s $8 for adults and $6 for children to walk down the yellow brick road.

Saturday afternoon, Sharky’s Edgartown is putting on Wingfest, a chance to judge the best chicken wing sauce created by an Island group or chef, and it all benefits our boys’ and girls’ club located in Edgartown. It’s from noon to 3 p.m. There will be music and for $20 you get all you can eat plus a T-shirt.

It is the time of the year that Robert Pacheco of Reliable Market, Jo Ann Murphy and Stelle Burnham start collecting items for our servicemen in Afghanistan, Iraq and where ever else supplies are needed. To get a list you can call Stelle at 508-627-9521 or you can mail donations to Stelle at RFD 140 Edgartown MA 02539. You can also write to the servicemen and women; get in touch with Stelle and Jo Ann Murphy to get some names from the list. The servicemen and women love getting mail from home.

Wednesday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, so let us remember those who gave up their tomorrows so that we could have ours.

Have a great day, and keep the home candles burning.
