Daily Show with Jon Stewart regular Wyatt Cenac stars in Medicine For Melancholy, a film that begins with two African-American twenty-somethings who wake up in bed together having no recollection of how they arrived there. The cinematic drama follows their next day in San Francisco, as they shrug off sleep but not quite each other.

It’s got politics, race, place and lush cinematography. Calling this an exciting debut for filmmaker Barrie Jenkins, the New York Times said it wouldn’t be inaccuarate to call it a mash-up of Before Sunrise and She’s Gotta Have It.

Medicine For Melancholy screens on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven. Admissions is $8 and $5 for film society members.
