The first live Island performance of Susan Klein and Alan Brigish’s online book, Martha’s Vineyard Now & Zen, will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven.

The Martha’s Vineyard Film Society hosts the performance in conjunction with the acclaimed Japanese film Still Walking. Storyteller Ms. Klein will present chapter one of Martha’s Vineyard Now & Zen, live, accompanied by a 10-minute slide show of Vineyard photographs curated by Alan Brigish.

The connection between their material and the featured film is the process of coming to terms with that which is lost, how we each make peace with the transition necessary to accommodate a new stage of our lives.

For the past two years, Susan Klein and Alan Brigish have collaborated on Now & Zen, a project that shines a light on myriad aspects of Vineyard life, lived for the most part behind the scenes and away from people’s consciousness. Since April 2009, a series of 13 short photo essays have been posted online describing the Vineyard as it once was and showing it the way it now exists. These are freely available online at mvgazette.com as well as at brigish.com/mvzen. A book, which expands on these themes, will be in the bookstores in 2010.
