Lillian Hellman Fund

The Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard announces the establishment of the Lillian Hellman Recreational Fund. Through a bequest from the estate of Lillian Hellman, this fund supports recreational, leisure and education activities for school age children on Martha’s Vineyard both after school and in the summer months, with preference given to programs serving children from Aquinnah.

“Lillian Hellman was a renowned literary figure but she was also our Island neighbor for many years,” said Anne Williamson, chairman of the endowment board. “For Vineyard children to be remembered in her will is wonderfully generous, and the Permanent Endowment is very pleased to have been chosen to carry out her wish to help the younger members of our community. We are so grateful to have this opportunity to further the endowment’s work to improve the quality of life on the Island.”

The Permanent Endowment Fund is the Island’s community foundation. Established in 1982, its resources are focused exclusively on addressing the needs of the Vineyard. For more information on the fund, go online to endowmv.org or call 508-338-4665.
