Holiday shoppers can support the Vineyard’s nature sanctuary and find gifts honoring the beauty of nature through fine arts and crafts at Felix Neck’s shop, which will represent selected Island artists and artisans year-round.

Featured are paintings by Vasha Brunelle, Rose Abrahamson, Elizabeth Lockhart Taft, Susan Silva, and Chilmark painters Wendy Weldon, Linda Thompson and Marianne Neill.

Other media include Washington Ledesma’s sculpture and paintings, hand-carved birds by Glenn Hearn, handmade clocks by Edward Russell, antique decoys and handmade tile boxes from Treehouse Studios, cast bronze peace turtles by Jay Lagemann, as well as jewelry and crafts by Joan LeLacheur, Janette Vanderhoop and Kathleen Tackabury. Animal stone paintings by Annarae Hunter, animal ornaments by Stephanie Rossi and Wildlife of Martha’s Vineyard calendars are sharing the shelves and walls with items Felix Neck has always been known for — wonderful books, cards, nature crafts (including bird, bat and butterfly house kits), toys and more. Since the shop space is small, most of the art work is also small, and is priced accordingly.

Megan Ottens-Sargent, who owned the Gay Head Gallery for many years and managed the John Stobart Gallery before that, chairs the Felix Neck Sanctuary advisory committee and initiated this to broaden the art community’s connection to the wildlife sanctuary.

The new gallery/shop and the museum-quality Discovery Room make Felix Neck a destination for lovers of art, science and nature. Both are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be open most weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Christmas. Please call 508-627-4850 for more information, and to inquire about volunteer opportunities and Mass Audubon membership.
