Chilmark welcomed many family members and guests who came for the holiday weekend. Some were here in time to see the deep snows, and some remained long enough to see them melt away! There was much hard work done to clear away the feet of snow; then mother nature sent enough rain to wipe it all away ... for a day or two!

Roland and Marsha Mason and Marsha’s son, Lyle Bouchard, came to their Chilmark home and enjoyed a holiday visit with their Island family.

Norman and Diana Freed are enjoying a winter visit with their sons and daughter and their families.

Best wishes to John Armstrong, who is at home recuperating from recent knee surgery. His friends and family hope to see him out and about soon.

Barbara Armstrong traveled to Providence to see a play this weekend with her mother, Roberta Morgan, and Diane and Lily Morgan, all of Chilmark.

Coco Adams has returned from her off-Island Christmas with her son and family.

Marshall and Katie Carroll were happy to have Katie’s parents, Diana Lees and Frank Tamashunas, of Waltham, visiting for Christmas and welcoming the newest Carroll family member, a hamster named Hammi.

The weekend before Christmas the Carrolls traveled with Julie Flanders, Bella Thorpe, Sarah Doyle and Bret Stearns with their children, Ava and Graham, and their nephew Josh Markievitz, and Kathy Rega to the Polar Express in Lincoln, N. H. Chris, Kendra and Oona Carroll were also in the group. They also enjoyed sledding and shopping.

I am happy to report that Chilmark’s favorite poet, Peggy Freydberg, is much recovered from her illness before Christmas. We regret that we reported it as being more serious and we are glad she is better.

Word has reached us of the death of Peter Ghee, of New York city and Chilmark. He died on Dec. 18 in that city and services will be in Chilmark at a later date. We send condolences to his family. His Chilmark friends will miss his annual visits.

Cheers to you all for a peaceful and happy New Year. Let’s all hope for speedy resolutions to any or all of our concerns, and may the new year include lots of Chilmark time for all of you!
