The Mansion House is offering Vineyarders a $25 stay in the historic downtown hotel, to celebrate 25 years of ownership by Susan and Sherm Goldstein.

All guests enjoy free use of the health club, classes and pool, along with complimentary breakfast in Zephrus.

When Susan, then a teacher in the West Tisbury School, and Sherm, who worked for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, purchased the Tisbury Inn on Main street, they said: “We’re looking to be open year-round, to really bring the public into the hotel.”

The Goldsteins recall that public reaction was skeptical, because the inn had recently had twice seen new owners and names; in 1974, Benjamin Coffin purchased it from Walter Woods and changed the name to Coffin House, and then he flipped it in 1977, to new owners who called it Tisbury Inn. Before Mr. Woods purchased it in 1944, it already had been sold first that year for $9,500 to Leo Convery.

The special Vineyarder rate is available at the Mansion House through January; some proof of residency is required, and the room rate is per person, based on double occupancy. State and local taxes are not included.
