The Island Affordable Housing Fund announced this week that the copresidents will step down, one immediately and one in the spring.

Robert Wheeler will resign immediately and Candace daRosa will stay on until the organization’s spring annual meeting, a press release stated this week. At that time a new president will be selected by the board.

Mrs. daRosa intends to stay on as a board member while Mr. Wheeler will leave the board, according to the release.

The changes on the fund board follow other changes in leadership at the fund late last year when T. Ewell Hopkins took over as executive director of the fund two months after the sudden departure of executive director Patrick Manning in August.

A short time after Mr. Hopkins took over, the fund was thrust into in the public spotlight when it announced that it would no longer be able to provide funding for the county rental assistance program.

Since then Mr. Hopkins has pledged an open-door policy at the nonprofit fund on everything from finances to program goals.

In the press release Mr. Hopkins praised the work of Mr. Wheeler. “Bob has been a vocal supporter and has been able to have a positive impact on so much of our work,” he said in the statement.
