Wind Work Group Meets

The work group formed to help develop the Wind Energy Facilities Siting Plan for Dukes County will meet on Thursday, March 11, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Commission Office in Oak Bluffs.

The siting plan will mainly deal with land-based and offshore wind energy facilities that have a regional impact, but the plan’s process and results should also prove useful to the towns in developing or evaluating their own wind regulations. The plan will identify standards for considering a proposed wind turbine a development of regional impact and criteria for commission review of these projects. The siting plan will also address what constitutes appropriate scale wind energy facilities in ocean waters, as stipulated in the state ocean plan.
