Please Adopt Us

Once again, because it is close to Easter, we would like you to hear from the animals in their own words.

”My name is Cora, and if I do say so myself I am a very beautiful pure bred Persian cat with a coat that just begs to be hugged — I am grey with black tips and that handsome Persian face ... I love to hide in our cat houses here at the shelter, but I would so love to be in a home of my own where I can be loved and patted all day. Please come see me. I know that you will want to take me home for Easter.”

“I am called Cyrus, and I am a handsome big black cat who loves to play and roughhouse. I was adopted to become a barn cat but that’s not my thing, I want to be a house lap cat.”

“My name is Miss Misty. I’m a sweet little tiger tabby and I am so affectionate. I’ve been here at the shelter for a long time because I am FIV positive and people are afraid that I am sick but that is not the case at all, I am very healthy — just ask your vet, FIV cats make wonderful pets, they just have to be the only cat and be an indoor cat. Won’t you please give me a chance to prove to you that I can be just the lap cat you want?”

All of us are neutered or spayed and have had all our shots. There are currently no dogs available for adoption.

Please don’t forget the rabies clinics: Saturday, April 3, at the animal shelter in Edgartown and at the West Tisbury Fire station from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $15 for a one-year vaccination; to get a three-year vaccination, we will require written proof of the previous vaccination within 9 months of the clinic date. We are in need of volunteers to help at the clinics and please remember that cats must be in carriers and dogs on a leash.

The shelter hours are: Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The telephone number is 508-627-8662. And please remember, if you have lost a pet, please call your local animal control officer and also the animal shelter — many times we get animals turned in to us at the shelter as strays but we just know they are someone’s pet.
