Edgartown voters elected Michael McCourt to a one-year term on the planning board in the lone contest in the annual town election yesterday. Mr. McCourt was running against Dudley Levick 3rd, and was elected with 284 votes. Mr. Levick received 191 votes. (Mr. McCourt has been serving as an interim member of the planning board since the resignation of Alison D. Cannon late last year.)

Voters also returned incumbent Michael Donaroma to the board of selectmen for what will be his third full term.

The total turnout was 524 voters, nearly 17 per cent of the town’s registered voters.

Eight ballot override questions were approved: $250,000 to purchase a new ambulance (354 to 155); $236,000 to pay for the town dredge program (352 to 154); $135,000 to resurface and rebuild town streets (367 to 139); $45,000 to build and repair town sidewalks, bike paths, and storm water drainage systems (379 to 131); $300,000 to pay for architecture and engineering plans for the new library expansion project (282 to 222); $25,000 to replace five doors at the wastewater treatment plant (339 to 154); $40,270 to replace the heating systems at the wastewater treatment plant (353 to 147); and $40,000 for a project to extend the town sewer system to the Island Grove subdivision (329 to 167).

Question nine regarding South Beach concessions was voted down, with 272 voting no and 237 yes. It would have authorized $25,000 for the rental and maintenance of portable toilets at South Beach.

The remaining positions were elected without contest, as follows: Edward Belisle, board of assessors, 430 votes; Harold T. Zadeh, board of health, 406 votes; Scott Ellis, town constable, 449 votes; Frederick M. Condon, financial advisory committee, 375 votes; Steven C. Jordan, financial advisory committee, 352 votes; H. Glenn Carpenter and Edward B. (Ned) Southworth 3rd, library trustees, 396 and 389 votes respectively; Edward W. Vincent Jr., Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission representative, 405 votes; Christopher M. Dolby, park commission, 403 votes; Fred D. Mascolo, a five-year planning board seat, 336 votes; David B. Rossi, school committee, 425 votes; Ronald (Cliff) Karako, wastewater treatment commission, 407 votes; John Lovewell, water commissioner, 406 votes.
