The Edgartown Library Foundation’s annual summer brunch, A Legacy of Learning, will honor Ted Morgan with a lifetime achievement award at the event on Sunday, July 11, at noon at The Boathouse, part of the Field Club.

A native of Edgartown, retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, and former selectman for over 30 years, Mr. Morgan embodies a spirit of service. “Ted’s love of Edgartown has led him to contribute in many ways, and always with passion,” said Bailey Norton, who received the lifetime achievement award in 2009.

Another highlight of A Legacy of Learning will be recognition of winning essays submitted by Edgartown students as part of the foundation’s annual essay contest. The contest was launched in May and all Edgartown students in grades one through eight (summer and winter) were encouraged to participate. This year’s topic is, The Edgartown Public Library and Me: What’s My Story?

Prizes will be awarded to winning essays from grade levels one to three; four to six; and seven to eight, with the grand prize being a netbook computer.

As the story of a new library continues to develop, library trustees and town leaders recently formed a building design committee to review the library’s programs and then to develop the best structure to house those programs. They will also prepare a new grant application to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

The Foundation’s mission is to raise public support and funds for the benefit of the library. “Giving this year is already well ahead of last,” said Robert Hughes, cochair with Susan Hughes of this year’s annual fund drive. “The opportunities to expand the quality and breadth of what the library does are many.”

Tickets are $150 per person and the event is expected to sell out early again this year. For more information, please inquire at the library or call Anne Vose, 508-627-7077.
