The Oak Bluffs Council on Aging recently honored Ruth Metell as volunteer of the year.

Ruth has been behind her desk at the senior center for six years, always with a cheerful smile. She is the first one there for anyone in need; she never says no.

This petite lady stays very busy. In addition to the volunteer work at the senior center, she is involved with the P.A. Club, the scholarship fund, Possible Dreams auction, the Oak Bluffs Firemen’s Association, and church work.

State Rep. Tim Madden was on hand to present the official citation from the senate, signed by senate president Therese Murray; William Weld, clerk of the senate; and state senator Robert O’Leary. She also received a citation from the House of Representatives signed by speaker Robert DeLeo.

After the presentations, refreshments were served so that Ruth could mingle with her many well-wishers.
