No charges will be filed against the driver of the tractor trailer that was involved in a fatal bicycle accident on July 6 in Vineyard Haven, a Cape and Islands district attorney confirmed yesterday.
Dina Dececca, 40, of Melrose, fell from her bike while riding up the hill on State Road in Vineyard Haven near Camp street, into the path of the 18-wheeler owned by E.C. Cottle Co. of West Tisbury. The truck had just come off a Steamship Authority ferry and was headed out of town in the mid-afternoon when the accident occurred. Ms. Dececca was visiting the Vineyard for the day with her family and friends.
“Based on our review and the complete state police investigation that was conducted, it was determined that no charges would be filed,” said first assistant district attorney Michael A. Trudeau, speaking from his office in Barnstable yesterday. “It would appear to be an unfortunate and tragic accident.”
The driver of the truck was 46-year-old Bruce O’Donnell of Oak Bluffs.
