Please Adopt Us

There is good news at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard: all five of the adorable kittens that were up for adoption last week have found homes, and the beautiful young orange tiger that was brought in as a stray a couple of weeks ago has found his owner who was so happy to be reunited with her pet.

There are still many older cats available for adoption: Dolly, a tuxedo (black with a little white); Binx, a black cat with long white whiskers; Phoebe, a big, lovable orange and white cat; Olive, a tortoiseshell with a bobbed tail and handsome markings; Ananda, a yellow tiger; Banjo, an old fellow who really needs an older person that he can cuddle up to; Cleo, another elderly lady; Cyrus and Miss Misty, our shelter mascots who would love to be in a nice home; and Gracie, a beautiful, long-haired gray cat who is very sweet and friendly.

Our two dogs are Katama, a fawn boxer cross who loves walks and people, and Ozzie, a small Mini-Pin cross.

A striking black and silver tiger tabby with a bobbed tail was brought in as a stray from West Tisbury — we know he belongs to someone because he is so friendly and well taken care of. If he isn’t claimed, we will have him neutered and put him up for adoption.

A reminder to anyone who has lost a cat or dog: please contact your animal control officer by calling 508-693-1212, the nonemergency number at the Island communications center. Or call the shelter if your pet has been brought to us; we have had many strays this summer. The number is 508-627-8662. Hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The hurricane season is upon us and the shelter has a list of things that you need for your pet in case you have to be evacuated. We will run the list in next week’s column.
