Night Time Is the Right Time
There’s an airport in the middle of the Island, off the Edgartown/West Tisbury Road. Most times a roar coming from out that way can be attributed to an actual airplane taking off or coming in for a landing. This Friday, however, those airplanes will sound like pinkletinks next to the sounds coming out of Nectar’s, the music club located out that way, down a dusty road, back out in the woods. That’s because Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are coming to the Island for a one-night show. They play loud and they play rough.
A reviewer down in Houston described the live listening experience as like having his ears grabbed, his face slapped, and the pain feeling remarkably good.
For those who don’t know Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, they are at the moment red-hot. Their new disc recently hit number 2 on the iTunes rock albums chart. Their version of Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit has gone so viral it’s downright rabid. They just appeared on the Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel. And now they are here.
The show is also a homecoming of sorts. The band got their start with Nectar’s in Vermont. That’s a testament to the club that has for two summers brought major music acts to the Island. It also says a lot about the band remembering those who helped them along the way.
The show is tonight, August 6, at 9:30 p.m. This is a 21-and-older show. Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 at the show. For an address, just cup a hand to your ear — or head out to the airport and follow the signs for Nectar’s. For more information, call 508-693-1137.
