The Edgartown Library building design committee has been working since April to develop a new building plan for submission in early October to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. The committee has made several field trips to visit other new libraries in the region. Last week, the committee signed a contract with Pomroy Associates of South Easton to serve as the project manager. The committee is advertising for an architectural firm for the project; it has developed projections for the population the new library will serve, and is working on a document describing the space needs of a new facility.

On Monday, August 16 — with just 50 days remaining until Oct. 5, when the application for state funding is due — the Edgartown committee will hold a public forum, briefly summarizing its work to date and soliciting public comment as it continues to focus its proposals for the new library.

The committee, appointed this April by the Edgartown selectmen in conjunction with the library trustees, is charged with exploring three options for the library: expansion at its present site on North Water street, relocation to the former elementary school building, or a two-campus plan that would use both locations.

The public is invited to bring comments and questions to the meeting, set for 5 p.m. in the Edgartown town hall.
