Welcome to President Obama and the First Family as they begin their restful vacation on the Vineyard once again. Perhaps this year we will see them more around town, and perhaps I will get to see them if they venture up to Aquinnah again.

All roads lead to the fair — the 149th annual Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair runs through Sunday and I will see you there!! Thank you to my Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School classmate Eleanor Fischer Neubert for her 26 years of dedication to overseeing every aspect of the fair.

Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living will be the fund-raising recipient at Flatbread Pizza on Tuesday evening August 24 from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at Nectar’s at the airport. For every pizza sold that evening, Flatbread will donate a portion of each sale to the center for living. You may dine in or take out and a portion will assist us in our fund-raising efforts. There will also be a silent auction table of wonderful items and something for everyone to ponder purchasing. I would like to personally thank each and everyone of you who has donated to our cause over the past two months. As your Aquinnah board member, you really need to know what I am up to in representing our Aquinnah community and I thank those of you who have contributed to our effort. We will also have an informational booth at the fair.

Today at the Aquinnah Cultural Center, Mashpee Wampanoag women Emma Mills Brennan and Kitty Hendricks Miller will present ancient and contemporary music from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Aquinnah wampum artist and jeweler (as well as famed lighthouse keeper for President Obama and the First Family) Joan LeLacheur will present a trunk show of her jewels with her friends, Heather Hall with her felt creations, and Gabriella Camilleri and her clothing creations. Their show will be held at 62 Otis Bassett Road in West Tisbury on Saturday, August 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with music and food throughout the day. Rain date will be on Sunday.

On Wednesday, August 25 at 5:30 p.m. the Aquinnah Cultural Center is pleased to present Jennifer Kreisberg and Pura Fe of Ulali in an extraordinary concert. This will be a Native American women’s a capella group who have created a completely unique sound that encompasses an array of indigenous music. For further information, please call 508-645-7900.

On Tuesday, August 24, the Aquinnah Public Library will present art historian Peter Miller on abstract expressionist artist Philip Guston. The program is from 5 to 6 p.m. at the town hall. Lemonade and other refreshments will be served.

On Tuesday, August 31, Aquinnah’s own prehistorian Duncan Caldwell will present Mother Caves: The Implications of Paleolithic Frieze. The program will be from 5 to 6 p.m. at the town hall with refreshments served.
