Former year-round resident Tom Murro was in the right place at the right time last year when he got to standing with Spike Lee on the filmmaker’s Farm Neck yard and President Obama showed up to shake his hand. Since then Mr. Murro, who lives in New Jersey, has begun a Web site, celebritymagnet.com (which reads in part, “Tom Murro was just an ordinary schmoe from Jersey with a job in banking, until the day he met President Barack Obama, and discovered that he had the power to attract celebrities like a magnet.”)

This week he was back, bearing a photograph from his neighbor Yogi Berra, which Mr. Murro was determined to deliver to someone close enough to the President to ensure the commander in chief would see it. The photograph shows the Brooklyn Dodgers’s Jackie Robsinson sliding safe into home plate in the 1955 World Series, ahead of the tag from Mr. Berra, then the New York Yankees catcher, who autographed it: “Dear Mr. President. He was out.”

On Wednesday, Mr. Murro was in the right place again — grabbing a bite at Nancy’s when Mr. Obama arrived as well. The President shook hands all around and Mr. Murro told the Gazette that he reminded the President of their encounter the previous year and said he had something for him. Mr. Obama said he couldn’t take gifts and turned away but his “ears pricked up” when Mr. Murro said, “It’s from Yogi Berra.” He took a look, accepted the gift and turned once more to make sure Mr. Murro had included his contact details in the envelope, which also included glossy prints of the photographs from Farm Neck 2009. “I guess maybe this isn’t the last contact I’ll have from him,” a happy Mr. Murro said on Thursday.
