Please Adopt Us
The Animal Shelter is bursting at the seams with cats, kittens, guinea pigs, a bunny, and one beautiful dog. She is a handsome fawn boxer cross, young and very sweet and her name is Katama. She loves to go for walks and loves people. Won’t someone please come to see her? You will fall in love with her!
The cats who have been at the shelter the longest and really do need to find homes are Bebe, a short-haired tortoiseshell who is an indoor/outdoor cat and loves other cats; Digger, a short-haired tabby male; Oprah, another tortoiseshell; Dolly and Binx, two black tuxedo cats; Phoebe, a ginger and white kitty; and Gracie, a long-haired, sweet grey cat who loves to be brushed.
The kittens are Genie, a four-month-old black sweetheart who loves to play and chase toys; and three black and white kittens about four months old, who just love all the attention that our great volunteers shower on them. You will just fall in love with them all.
We have two sweet little guinea pigs. Mocha and Piggy Sue are both brown and white, and our bunny is Honey Bun, also brown and white, who comes with her own indoor/outdoor cage. She is a stray from Vineyard Haven whose owner must be missing her a lot. But she has not been claimed so she is ready to find a new home.
This is the time of year when the summer residents are going back to their homes off-Island and so many of them give up a beloved pet because they just can’t take them home with them. It is very sad that all these lovely animals end up either being deserted or at the shelter. It has become the responsibility of Islanders to adopt these animals and to them we give our thanks.
Shelter hours are Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The telephone number is 508-627-8662. Volunteers are needed.
