Please Adopt Us

If you are thinking about adopting a kitten, please call and put your name on our wish list at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; we have a number of kittens that are still too young to be taken away from their mothers but they will be ready in a few weeks. And they are adorable! Our cats that are ready and very anxious to be out of the shelter and in a nice, cozy home are: Binx, a sweet black female with long white whiskers; Phoebe, a ginger and white short-haired female; Dolly, a black and white very pretty girl; Gracie, a beautiful long-haired smoky gray cat who loves to be brushed; Bebe, a gorgeous calico who is extremely friendly and just loves people; Oprah, a short-haired tortoiseshell just about a year old; Hezzie, a handsome buff-colored male who looks like a lion and who is quickly becoming socialized and friendly; Chester, a gray and white lovable cat who gets along very well with the other cats; Andy (who used to be Stella until we discovered that she is male), who is a real sweetheart and about six months old, really still a kitten; and Callie, an all-black, short-haired female.

Our one dog who has been at the shelter for such a long time is Rascal, an American bulldog-lab cross, a big, energetic fellow who needs a lot of exercise and training. He would make a great pal for a young person who likes to walk or jog.

Mocha and Piggy Sue are our two guinea pigs, both brown and white, and should be adopted together. They have their own special cage and love to be held and petted.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662; hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Volunteers are badly needed so if you have a few hours to give to a very worthy cause, please call and arrange to come in for an interview. We would love to have high school students who could come in after school and help get the animals ready for nighttime.
