Aquinnah Public Library attendees on Saturday will enjoy spending the morning with world renowned storyteller Lillian Kellman, who will weave her stories from near and far starting at 11 a.m.. Children ages five and over must be accompanied by an adult. Please stop by and enjoy the tales.
Aquinnah author and art collector Diane McManus Jensen will have a book signing on Saturday evening, Oct. 9 at the Simon Gallery at 54 Main street in Tisbury. Diane will be there from 5 to 8 p.m. While you’re in the gallery, take a look at Peter’s framed photographs, which will be part of a 25 per cent off sale the weekend.
Yoga instructor Fae Kontje-Gibbs will offer free yoga on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m. at the Mansion House. Fae is an expert instructor with a 35-year practice in structural body work and oriental medicine. Her classes are always a favorite.
Meet and speak with Neal Maciel on Sunday, Oct. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Farm Neck Golf Club. Neal is a candidate for Sheriff of Dukes County and will be discussing his candidacy with Vineyard voters.
The Vineyard Transit Authority bus schedule will change significantly on Oct. 12 for the winter season. Please obtain a new schedule and plan your rides accordingly.
The annual Aquinnah Wampanoag Cranberry Day celebration will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 12 with harvesting beginning at 9 a.m. after cranberry agent David E. Vanderhoop declares the bogs suitable. At noon there will be a luncheon from the open fire pit. In the evening, the community is invited to the potluck dinner at the tribal building at 20 Black Brook Road. Please bring a dish to share.
Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living invites you to the second annual board of directors meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Tisbury Senior Center on Pine Tree Road. Herbert Ward will be the guest speaker at the Martha’s Vineyard Chapter of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Family History Center at Merchant Mart in Tisbury. Herb will present the history of his great-grandfather, Captain Levi Jackson, and his crew, who saved 14 souls from the sinking Mertie B. Crowley.
The fourth annual Martha’s Vineyard Food and Wine festival Will be held on Oct. 15 and 16 at the Boathouse Field Club on Katama Road. The opening reception will be on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. with the Sultans of Swing for your dancing pleasure while you enjoy dining in the restaurant. On Saturday, Oct. 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. there will be the Grand Tasting, food and wine seminars, and private dinners. The weekend festival will benefit the Martha’s Vineyard Boys’ and Girls’ Club, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, and the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard. Congratulations to Jessie Little Doe Baird on her MacArthur fellowship as well as her Administration for Native Americans (ANA) Grant to fund her continuity of the Wopanaak Language Program. Jessie was honored over the weekend by members of the Aquinnah community.
A memorial service for Rusty Walton will be held at the Chilmark Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. Sincerest condolences to Carolyn Silva and to Rusty’s family and friends. Rusty served as a member of the Tri-Town Ambulance and was always so helpful with his knowledge of the wetlands in Aquinnah. He will be missed.
