Officer Frank Pacheco of the Oak Bluffs Police Department was recognized with an award for bravery at the Wednesday, Oct. 13 Southeastern Massachusetts Police Chiefs Association meeting.

Chief Erik Blake nominated Officer Pacheco for the award based on an incident that occurred on July 15 this year, shortly after midnight. Police were looking for 35-year-old Richard Brymer after it was reported that he broke into a residence on Uncas avenue and assaulted the residents inside with a handgun. Officer Pacheco located Mr. Brymer in a wooded area off Pacific avenue and attempted to place him under arrest. After a struggle, Mr. Brymer was placed under arrest. Officer Pacheco sustained cuts and scrapes and an injury to his knee during the struggle. Mr. Brymer was charged with several felonies.

The award plaque reads: “In recognition of your outstanding performance ... without regard for your personal safety, you tenaciously arrested a dangerous suspect and brought him to justice.”

Officer Pacheco’s father, Lou Pacheco, the chief of police in Raynham and also a member of the association, was in attendance for the presentation of the award.
