The nine little kittens that were born at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard a few weeks ago will be ready to find homes on Oct. 27, so if you would like a kitten, come early on that day and pick your kitten. Some of them, have double paws. The shelter opens at 8:30 a.m.

Our other cats new and old are Cookie, a tortoiseshell and white, sweet lap cat who gets along with every one; Binx, Dolly, Woody and Callie, all black cats (perfect for Halloween); Phoebe, a ginger and white; Gracie, a long-haired, very sweet gray cat who loves to be brushed and is a great lap cat; Angel, a flame point Siamese; Tinkerbelle, a beautiful round-faced tiger and white with double paws, who likes cats but is afraid of dogs; Hezzie, a handsome ginger fellow who looks like a lion; Chester, a gray and white short-haired friendly fellow; and last but not least Maxine, a sweet little tabby.

We also have two guinea pigs, Mocha and Piggy Sue, and one dog, Rascal, a big, beautiful brindle American bulldog and lab mix who loves to take long walks.

A reminder to all who leave your cars outside at night: Bang on the hood before you start your car because there may be a cat who has crawled up under the hood there to get warm.

The shelter telephone number is 508-627-8662; the hours are Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
