Watch a Concert, Join the Concert

They’ve played for the Queen and now they’re playing for you.

This Saturday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. the London Gold Group will be performing at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. This group of violinists and viola players is comprised of London’s finest musicians, aged 9 to 15 years old that is. But don’t let thoughts of callow youths dissuade you. These kids have been rosining up their bows since they were four years old.

Their teacher is Helen Brunner, founder of the London Suzuki Group in 1972. She graduated from the Royal College of Music, London, and has studied with Dr. Suzuki himself in Japan. Accompanying the musicians is Dominic John, presently on staff at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

The concert will include music by Elgar, Vivaldi, Bach and Kreisler to name just a few of the heavyweight composers who will be featured. There will also be jazz.

Better still, this event is not about just about sitting back and enjoying great music. From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. all Island children familiar with the Suzuki method are welcome to attend a free workshop with Ms. Brunner. After the concert any child who attended the workshop will be invited to join London Gold on stage to conclude the program with Allegro and Twinkle from the Suzuki repertoire.

The program is free to all Island children, with a suggested $10 donation for adults.
