Promising to enable women to gain financial freedom, find creative fulfillment and enjoy better relationships, Island personal trainer Kimberly Cartwright has created Spiritual Cycling.

This eight-week indoor cycling class for women uses meditation, breath play and guided imagery inspired by renowned psychotherapist Belleruth Naparstek.

Ms. Cartwright’s program aims to train our bodies in new biochemical habits, so we access “restore and relax” hormones, instead of “fight or flight” hormones. The repetitive pedalling helps participants enter a deep meditative state; the guided imagery helps release guilt, fear and obstacles to creativity and prosperity; and working in a group circle creates a healing energy field.

In the toughest economy since the Great Depression, women are finding themselves responsible for both the emotional and economic wellbeing of their families. Ms. Cartwright said the program is to serve these women.

Spiritual Cycling is offered for men and women at the Martha’s Vineyard YMCA on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. Sign up is required.

Small group classes of no more than 12 participants are being held at Blitz Fitness in West Tisbury.

Private group classes are also available. For more information, call Ms. Cartwright at 508-364-6350, or e-mail SpiritualCycling@gmail.com.
