A public forum and interviews with West Tisbury police chief candidates originally scheduled for today and tomorrow have been postponed indefinitely because selectman Cynthia Mitchell has been called away due to family matters. At Wednesday’s selectmen’s meeting, board chairman Richard Knabel also announced that the town has received a number of letters endorsing acting police chief Dan Rossi for the job. Superior court clerk Joseph E. Sollitto Jr., Vineyard airport manager Sean Flynn, Dukes County sheriff Michael McCormack, Oak Bluffs police chief Erik Blake, Tisbury police chief Dan Hanavan, Edgartown police chief Tony Bettencourt, Chilmark police chief Brian Cioffi and Aquinnah police chief Randhi Belain all wrote to support Mr. Rossi’s candidacy. Mr. Rossi, who has served as acting police chief since Beth Toomey’s resignation in July is one of three final candidates; the other two are Donald B. Hull, Canton, Conn., deputy police chief, and Christian Pedoty, lieutenant of police for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York city.
