What if you had $1,000 to give away? Recently, MJ Bruder Munafo had a chance to find out. While attending the presentation of the 2010 Creative Living Award hosted by the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard, Ms. Munafo entered a drawing to win the opportunity to award $1,000 to Island nonprofits. The drawing was made possible by the 11 members of the Permanent Endowment board, who donated $1,000 to demonstrate their commitment to fostering philanthropy on the Vineyard. More than 90 guests at the event celebrating Ross Gannon and Nat Benjamin enthusiastically participated in the drawing.

MJ chose 10 Vineyard nonprofits to each receive a $100 award. Her list included the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard, Featherstone Center for the Arts, Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard, Island Elderly Housing, Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group, Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, Polly Hill Arboretum, the Vineyard Committee on Hunger, Vineyard Nursing Association and the Vineyard Playhouse, where she is artistic director.

Established in 1982, the Permanent Endowment fund is the Island’s community foundation. More information is available at endowmv.org or by calling 508-338-4665.
