Please Adopt Us

The animals and staff at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The shelter will be open on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please stop by and see all of our beautiful cats and a special little dog named Amigo; he is five years old and a beagle-Jack Russell mix. We think he is extremely friendly — good with cats and other dogs and loves children and also loves to ride in the car. Rascal, our American bulldog and lab mix, is great with people but not good with dogs. So he needs a strong person who is willing to be the boss and keep him on a leash.

Cats at the shelter are: Cookie, an indoor cat, tortoiseshell and white; Callie, Binx and Dolly, our all black cats; Oprah, a tortoiseshell; Tinkerbell, a chubby sweet tiger and white cat with double paws; Pepper and Gracie, two smoky gray cats, one short haired and the other with long, fluffy fur; Maxine, a lovable tabby; Hezzie, Chopper and Alexander, all yellow tigers; and Angel and Tangerine, both unusual flame-point Siamese cats.

We still have three guinea pigs and a beautiful gray and white bunny named Jack.

The December holidays will be upon us soon; if you are thinking of giving an animal for a gift, please let that person come and pick out the animal herself. Adopting an animal is a very personal thing; by all means come see for yourself and bring a friend.

Volunteers are needed for this busy season and donations of cat food, bunny and guinea pig food and cleaning supplies are needed. Remember also that the shelter is supported by your donations. And there is the Susie fund which pays for medical help for animals needing veterinary care.

The shelter telephone number is 508-627-8662. Next week hours will return to Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
