We are back to the balmy weather, but people have been happy because they can still decorate outside without being cold. So I hope to see many houses lit up for the holidays.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their birthday these past two weeks. Big balloons go out to Greg McCarron and Kaio Pereira, who celebrated their day Nov. 20; Michael Cherchio and Erik Faber, Nov. 23; Daniel Serpa, Nov. 24; Tiffany Freitas and Avery Simmons, Nov. 26; Gabrielle Small and Schuyler Small, Nov. 27; Andre DiMattia and James DiMattia and Malcolm Hammond, Nov. 28; Abigail Desquenne, Nov. 30; to Samantha Cassidy and Brandan Morris, who celebrated their day Dec. 2; and to John Alley who celebrates today.

Special birthday wishes go out to John Morgan, who celebrated his day Nov. 29.

Mary Waller celebrated her 70th birthday on Saturday Nov. 27. To celebrate, she and her granddaughter, Martha Scheffer, took a trail ride to Great Pond. It was a beautiful day. They rode their horses, Remy and Ben, who love to get out on the trails as well. She is hoping to be able to celebrate the same way when she is 80. Happy birthday, Mary, and I look forward to writing this in the 2020 column.

Congratulations to Sara and Conrad Kurth on the birth of their granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Kurth, who was born at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on Nov. 15, 2010. She weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces. She was born only a couple of hours after her mom’s birthday. Ashley and Adam Kurth are her parents. She has a brother, Evan, who was very excited to meet her. Her maternal grandparents are Philip and Ginnie Fantasia of Humerock.

Last week I was on a road trip to Maryland for a baby shower. My cousin Lynn and her husband are expecting their new arrivals in February. These are the first children for them, and we are very excited for both of them and can’t wait to welcome baby girl and baby boy Kujan into the family.

It was an uneventful drive down and back; the only traffic we encountered was in Connecticut. But New York and New Jersey were kind to us.

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving. We spent ours with Pam Dolby, her husband, their son and daughter in law, Chris and Liza, and their children, Ellie and Caroline, who made the place cards and also made all of us cards that we had to hunt for before dinner. It was great — particularly perfect after a Patriots win.

We were joined also by Bob and Gail Avakian, who made the table complete. The Dolbys’ daughters couldn’t be there; Shannon and her husband, Andy, were in New York with Andy’s parents, and daughter and son in law Linley and David Weagle were with Dave’s parents. Bob and Gail’s son Derek and his wife, Brooke, were with Brooke’s parents, and Alex was cooking at L’Étoile. We missed them all, but we were happy with each other’s company — and Pam served a wonderful meal.

Edgartown high school senior Bryan MacKenty will perform with the Minnesingers at their winter shows, at the Whaling Church in Edgartown on Dec. 10 and 11.

Ned Burt and his wife, Chris, of Hamden, Conn., always look forward to their annual August vacation to the Vineyard, specifically to Martha’s Road in Edgartown. For the past two years they have been very fortunate to have a son on the high school hockey team, which means they get another visit: Jimmy and his teammates have ventured to the Vineyard the past two Decembers to play the Vineyard team and other top-notch teams from Massachusetts. This coming weekend they make it three years in a row at the Vineyard. They expect the karma of Cannonball Park and the Island’s magic to help them in the competition. The past two years have brought the Hamden team back-to-back Division One state championships — marking the first time in 35 years that a public high school has won back-to-back titles in Connecticut. Many of them attribute this Vineyard trip to be a big part of their team’s success.

Jimmy was selected to the First Team All State Team last year as a junior and leads the team as the captain in his final year at Hamden. His older brother, Eddie, is in his second year of teaching English in Krakow, Poland after spending his entire collegiate career in Madrid, Spain studying languages. His sister, Rachel, will be graduating this year from Fordham’s Lincoln Center Campus and has plans to head to Hollywood to pursue her dream of acting. The family still gathers together with cousin Brianna and golden retriever Lucy for blissful peace on the Vineyard each August staying at their home.

Beth and Bill Erickson welcomed home their daughters’ return to the Vineyard for a visit. Jennifer Jackson Kennedy and husband, Mark, along with their eight-month-old daughter, Danielle Nichole, who was on her first visit to the Vineyard; Haley Martin of Gilbert, Az.; Victoria Martin of Marion, Ill.; Laura Jackson St. Laurent and her husband, Kris, son Jonathan, and two daughters, Makenzie and Kyah, all were here. It was a very busy few days. Jennifer and Laura are the grandchildren of Sonny and Jerry Jackson, now of West Tisbury, and the daughters of Glenn and Rosemary Jackson. Woodie Cushman of Westerly also came for one day to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There were lots of family gatherings during this time, and they enjoyed every minute.

Linda Alley called to remind us that there is a winter Farmers’ Market at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury on Dec. 4, and Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are hot lunches available and plenty of room to mingle and meet people. Participants from Edgartown are Morning Glory Farm, Bob Daniels of Old Towne Gardens, the Farm Institute, and Jo Maxwell of Chesca’s with her sauces. Sounds like a great time and lots of interesting items — plus Kevin Keady will be there with the Cattle Drivers, entertaining with their songs.

Clear your schedule for next weekend, Dec. 10 to 12, and take take part in the annual Christmas in Edgartown festivities, more and better than ever!

Have a great week.
