Please Adopt Us
As Christmas approaches, there are still a great many cats at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard who need homes; some have been there for a long time. Won’t you please open your hearts and adopt one? Cats available for adoption are: Cookie, a lovable calico; Binx, a tuxedo cat with long, white whiskers; Dolly, a black cat with white markings; Oprah, a tortoiseshell; Tinkerbell, a tabby and white cat with double paws; Angel and Tangerine, two flame point Siamese; Woodie and Magic, both black cats; Abbie, a new young mother whose five adorable kittens are all spoken for and will be in their new homes in time for Christmas; Alexander and Chopper, two beautiful big orange and white cats; Max, a beautiful smoky gray and white who is declawed so needs to be an indoor cat; Starboard, a very young mother who came to us as a stray with her two tiger tabby kittens who are quite shy and need to be loved and socialized. The kitten season is at an end (we hope), so if you are looking for a kitten we have just the two left. All the older cats are spayed and neutered; any newer cats that are not yet spayed will be allowed to go to homes with the stipulation that they are to be spayed as soon as possible. The fee will cover the spaying operation. All are up to date on all their shots and have been microchipped.
The shelter has a new bunny — a brown and white dwarf who is a stray and clearly was someone’s pet. She joins our other dwarf rabbit and the two guinea pigs — great Christmas gifts for a child.
The shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
Please join the shelter float in the parade on Saturday; you are welcome to bring your dog on a leash. We will be gathering in the Edgartown School parking lot at 10:45 a.m.
The shelter needs volunteers who can give a couple of hours a week helping to feed the animals, clean cages and socialize the cats. They all need to be hugged and loved.
