Please Adopt Us
Islanders are really getting the Christmas spirit when it comes to animals who are looking for homes at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard. Several cats have already been adopted and others have “adoption pending” signs on their cages. The five little kittens will be leaving us on Saturday and we will certainly miss them; they are adorable and so full of fun. We still have four black cats — some all black and some with white markings — all sweet and friendly. Their names are Binx, Dolly, Woody and Magic. Starboard is the mother of two little gray tiger tabbies; they are all ready to go and it would be nice if the two kittens could go together. They are about four months old, a nice age for kittens. They need to be socialized as they are a little shy but their mother is extremely friendly so she must have been someone’s pet. She was picked up as a stray. It is sad at this time of year when it is so cold outside to have stray animals looking for homes, but the shelter is warm and cozy and all the animals are loved and well fed. We have one smoky gray and white cat named Max who is a real love, and two flame point Siamese cats, Angel and Tangerine. They are unusually beautiful; it’s hard to believe that some Siamese cat lover hasn’t scooped them up. Our last cat is Oprah, a beautiful tortoiseshell who has been at the shelter for a long time.
We have one bunny named Jack, and two guinea pigs, Mocha and Piggy Sue, who would make wonderful pets for children.
The shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
We have some nice gifts for the animal lovers on your list, including the Linda Jean’s Cookbook and another darling book about a cat that was adopted from the shelter, plus leashes and collars for your dog, some place mats of Edgartown and some nice little bags made of animal prints. All proceeds from sales go directly to the shelter.
