I know the kind of person who would do this is not intelligent enough to read my column, or, in fact, a newspaper, but thanks a lot to the jerk who dumped a car battery on my Eastville Beach, right at one of the fence entrances as the parking lot turns to beach. Someone has marked it with a large feather. Any chance one of our town, or Oak Bluffs town, services can remove this before it starts leaking into the environment?

The Ocean View had a customer appreciation night a week ago Thursday. While I could not stay for the party, I heard it was just wonderful. Admission was canned goods for the Island Food Pantry, unwrapped new toys for Red Stocking, or a financial donation for Red Stocking. Peg Jackson reports that four shopping carts full of food were collected, and over $2,500 was raised. I hear Trippy Barnes was his intrepid self as a live auctioneer. Sharon Jackson had thoughtfully and beautifully taken pictures of the usual suspects and had them hanging in photo Christmas ornaments above their beloved seats at the bar. Same time, next year.

Dana Hodsdon is a new grandfather! His daughter, Ilana, and her husband, Scott Palmer, brought Wilde Noble Palmer into the world, weighing 7 pounds, 11 ounces on August 31. Dana made it down to Wendell, N.C., to see his new baby boy, just moments after the child debuted. The whole family is doing well and looking forward to Wilde’s first visit on Island next summer.

Don’t miss my favorite actor, Chris Brophy, in a one-man David Sedaris play, the Santaland Diaries. The show is at the Vineyard Playhouse tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. Tickets are a mere $15 and may be reserved at 508-696-6300 or by e-mailing boxoffice@vineyardplayhouse.org. I’ll see you there.

I saw her in passing and did not have my reporter’s pad and pen, but my good buddy Nancy Gaffney has published a book. I did not get the name of the title but it is available at Bunch of Grapes. Nancy says it’s full of paranormal activity. Sounds out of this world.

Louisa Gould is hosting a holiday open house at her art gallery on Main street tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. Refreshments? Of course. Free gift wrapping and gifts starting at $40. Some of your favorite artists have their work there, among them, Louisa herself, Leslie Kenney, Laura Roberts and John Holladay.

Other last-minute gifts may be purchased at our library’s monthly mini-book sale from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow. It’s the weather for curling up with a good book.

The library is also showing The Fountainhead on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. as it continues with the Patricia Neal film festival. On Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. Tween Time, for ages eight to eleven, offers Wii games. On Thursday, Dec. 23, Teen Game Night is offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Get the kids out of your hair while you wrap.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Dick and Lorraine Clark on Dec. 18.

May I be condemned to a stalled car in the middle of Five Corners on a busy August weekend for forgetting to mention my friend, Renae Brown’s, birthday on Dec. 11. Belated best wishes, Renae.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Courtney Collins, Lyrae Littlefield, Mary Kelley and Charlie Ashmun today. Tomorrow is for Jamie Warrington and Injy Farat Lew. Dec. 19 is claimed by Ron Jackson. Dec. 20 belongs to Carissa Noel Doup. Dec. 21 honors Cathy Weiss. And on Dec. 22, John Giles, Sally Benson, Monica Radoszewski and Stephen Dunham Sr., take the cake. Many happy returns.
