Well, 2010 is going out like a lion and it sounds like 2011 is coming in like a lamb. I hope all who were traveling during the storm made their destinations on time and I hope they have safe travels back.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week; big balloons go out to Katherine Dourian who celebrated her day Dec. 25; Cicero Neto Batista, Molly Pogue, Paige Pogue, and Spencer Pogue who all celebrated their day Dec. 26; Emma Herrick on Dec. 27; and to Connor Donnelly, Alexander Walsh and Jack Walsh, who all celebrate their day today, Dec. 31.

Living across the street from the new Edgartown Hardware location I have been watching as all those involved with the building, painting, and decorating have all been very busy. I hear that the store will be open Jan. 10. I am looking forward to see what they did with the building.

Chris White is back from New York city after taking her daughter, Ariel, back from her Christmas holiday on the Island. While in New York they saw Black Swan, which Chris said was “absolutely amazing,” and not because Ariel worked on it! Chris was sad to bring her babe back but they had a super time with her, even with all the crazy weather.

I went Christmas shopping with my friend’s husband. He could not drive as he just had hand surgery, so he asked if we could go to Island Alpaca in Oak Bluffs where Thimble Farm was. The store was amazing with the handmade articles anywhere from scarves to jackets, socks, slippers and even the yarn to make your own articles. I was glad I went and we also got to pat the alpacas as we entered and exited the store as they are in the barn connected. So if you want something different to do, take a ride and check it out.

I will be away for a couple of weeks but you can still send me e-mails and I will forward them to the office. I will look forward to hearing from you.

I would also like to thank those who do write me and tell me your news. And I appreciate all the feedback I get. You are the ones who help make my column what it is today.

As it is New Year’s please drive carefully and hand over the keys if you have had a drink or two and let a friend drive you home who has not had a drink or just call a taxi.

I wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
