Certified qigong instructor Nan Doty will offer a four-week workshop based on the book The Healer Within: The Four Essential Self-Care Methods for Creating Optimal Health, by Roger Jahnke. Running on Wednesdays throughout January, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Chilmark Library, the workshop promises the opportunity to begin the new year with vitality.
Qigong (also known as Chi Kung) refers to a broad range of movement, breath and imagery practices. Participants will learn and practice Jahnke’s vitality method, including gentle movement, guided meditation, breathing and self-massage to build up and balance energy levels.
The series, sponsored by the Friends of the Chilmark Public Library, is free and appropriate for all levels and abilities. Because each session builds on the information presented before it, participants are encouraged to attend all four. Reviewing the book is also encouraged, although not required.
“Because we are generally addicted to complexity and busyness, reaching a state of authentic relaxation is often a challenge,” Mrs. Doty said in a statement. “By learning and engaging in these practices, we enhance our vitality and our personal effectiveness.”
