What to do when you leave the Island and return to your Old Country? Well, Iole and I made plans to meet up with seasonal Islander Marge Howes, of my Tisbury neighborhood, and her (our) good friend Dot Eldefrey, a frequent Island visitor. As we did last off-season, we met up with these fabulous ladies at the Z Bistro in Tarrytown and had a wonderful holiday luncheon. Shane, our ever attentive and extremely handsome server, not only greeted us but can remember where we sat and what we ordered the last time. Shane obligingly took pictures of our meeting. This was Iole’s first venture out since her Christmas Day excursion before the blizzard. I drove her through town on the way home so she could note all the changes in stores and businesses as well as appreciate the holiday decorations.

Speaking of changes, I was forced to put the dogs in the truck and drive to my local Irish pub, Dunne’s, last night, as I do every Wednesday while my mother teaches an Italian class at home. The dogs are very protective of their Nonna and don’t let the students get an Italian word in edgewise, what with all the barking during the lesson. Wednesday nights are Irish music night at Dunne’s, so it works out well for me. And the big change was, as I greeted one of my favorite bartenders, Edmund Cleary, and asked after his family, he told me that he, wife Ellen, Edmund Jr., Keira and Maeve, welcomed a new baby to the family on Nov. 24, Shane. Welcome to the world, Shane Cleary!
