On Sunday night, Jan. 16, Jeffrey Levy-Hinte, a West Tisbury summer resident, won the Golden Globe award for best movie in the category of comedy or musical. The movie he produced is called The Kids Are All Right, a feature film that explores the complex journey of parenthood through the story of a lesbian couple raising their two children.

Poised and thoughtful at the winner’s podium, he thanked his cast and crew and his family watching at home. His wife, Kristen Kusama-Hinte, recently gave birth to a baby girl named Akira. They also have a two-year-old son, Rainer.

Later, referring to the more than 10-year journey it took to make this film, culminating in a night of huge recognition, not to mention glamour, Mr. Levy-Hinte did admit the evening had left him nonplussed. “It was all a swirl,” he said.

Mr. Levy-Hinte was also quick to point out how important the writer and director, Lisa Cholodenko, was to the film. The two have worked together now on three films. On Sunday night he brought her to the microphone. But, alas, his one minute was up. The music swelled and the cameras pulled away before she could say anything.

On March 18 at 7 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival, Vineyarders will get the chance to see a special sneak preview of Charlotte, Mr. Levy-Hinte’s next film. It is a documentary he directed about the making of the wooden schooner Charlotte at the Gannon and Benjamin shipyard.
