Fresh produce, meat, fish, bread, cheese and wine are the essentials of any meal, and come spring you won’t have to travel past the Triangle in Edgartown to collect your provisions. Three new food establishments plan to open this spring.

On North Summer street, fresh baguettes and baked goods will be for sale at Rickard’s. Slated to open in February, Rickard’s will be serving espresso drinks, soups and lunch items as well.

Across North Summer street at the former location of the Golden Door, fine cheese and cured meat will be sold at Black Sheep. Owner Mark Vendette describes his shop as a gourmet store that will focus on cured meats, cheeses, gourmet chocolate, ports, finger desserts and cocktail food.

Charcuterie by day and pre-and-post dinner spot by night? “Once we secure a beer and wine license, the shop will be closed for an hour during the day and at night; it will be a little spot to get a selective wine tasting in three-ounce pours,” Mr. Vendette said. “It’ll be a nice little place to have some wine before you go off to dinner.”

Meanwhile, the Edgartown Meat and Fish Market in Post Office Square at the former Hollywood Video location is slated to open in June. Owner John Ready is a Vermonter who owns the Shelburne Market.

“We have two stores in Vermont and we’d like to bring that option to Edgartown,” Mr. Ready said in a telephone interview from Vermont this week. “The concept is a small market that offers products you would need to make dinner. Meat, seafood, chicken, produce, beer and wine, bakery items, all on a small scale . . . the produce area is key for us and we’ll align ourselves with some local farms.”

Mr. Ready’s sons used to spend summers on the Vineyard, and when the family was looking to open another business in Massachusetts, they decided on the Island. Son Sean will move from Boston to the Vineyard to manage the new store.

“It’s been great, I’ve been out five or six times already and it’s a great location,” he said. “Our two locations have been well supported by the local community, we’re active with the community. I believe the same thing will apply out there.”

Mr. Ready needs a special permit to open the business; a public hearing is set before the Edgartown planning board on Feb. 1.
