Well, March sort of came in like a lion. The wind has been blowing very hard for the last few days but the sun has been shining which keeps the spirits up.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Benjamin Belisle, who celebrated his day Feb. 26; Dylan Burke, Sarah Lively and Christopher Patnaude, who all celebrated Feb. 28; Kelsey Fiske, March 1; Kylie Hathaway, March 2; Camden Emery, March 2; and to Sabrina Carlos, who celebrates her day today, March 4.

Special wishes go out to Linda Condlin, who celebrated a milestone birthday on Feb. 27 and to Barbara Rogers, who celebrated her birthday March 4.

Congratulations to Anastasia Oliveira, and Jonas Cavallo on the birth of their daughter, Giuliana Cavallo. Giuliana was born Feb. 24, and weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces. She is welcomed by her big brother Troy and is the granddaughter of Robert (Coo) and Donna Cavallo, and Mike and Courtney Oleveira.

Congratulations also go out to Amy and Greg Ellrodt on the birth of their daughter Lily Joyce Ellrodt, born Feb. 22, weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces.

Lily’s big brother, Charlie, welcomes her home; she is the granddaughter of Jay and Russell Swartz.

This week around town has been very quiet. There is no school, therefore there are no kids going by waving at the dogs; the buses have not been started at 6 a.m. to warm up; the parking lot at the school is empty and even downtown is very quiet. But after looking at Facebook I believe everyone is in Disney! So I hope everyone comes home with stories to share.

The Edgartown Library book group has chosen The Fiddler in the Subway, a collection of essays by the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Gene Weingarten, for discussion at its next meeting on Tuesday, March 29. At 4 p.m. that afternoon in the increasingly sunny reference room, discuss the book hailed by Kirkus Reviews as “a sparkling collection.” Copies are available at the circulation desk.

Also at the library, the film series, Small Wonder: Great Child Performances, continues on Tuesdays in March. Films are free and shown on the big screen downstairs.

I went over to Donaroma’s to visit the other day and I was telling them that I have two crocuses blooming. Patty said they just got the plugs in and all the babies had been planted and are growing like crazy for the spring. So it can’t be far away.

Our neighbors, the Kresels, are back after a six-week vacation in The Villages in Florida. They had a great time exploring the area in golf carts and even managed to get lost a few times. While they were there all their children and grandchildren visited and enjoyed the area. The only one that was not there on vacation was Bella, their four-legged child, who was in New Hampshire visiting her two four-legged cousins.

Call or e-mail with your vacation news. It is always fun to hear of new adventures.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
