I’m reporting from my Old Country. I know most of you want to be in Boston for St. Patrick’s Day, but for me it has to be New York. This is the 125th year of the founding of the order of nuns who taught me, the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, so they had a big contingent in the White Plains St. Patrick’s Day parade last Saturday and will repeat the performance in the famous New York city parade today. There is no place I would rather be than Dunne’s Pub on St. Paddy’s day. I’m reconnecting with my old school buddies. Mom is doing fine and kicked me out again last night with my three barking dogs so she could conduct her Italian class in peace. Once again, I was forced to go to Dunne’s, listen to Irish music, and raise a few glasses with my friends.

I have not been able to catch up with the mother of the bridegroom but I promise you a great wedding story next column, stay tuned.

The corrections. I think so often about dear Stuart Bangs that I mistakenly wrote his name instead of his son’s in last week’s anniversary wishes. It was Dana and Deanna Bangs who celebrated their anniversary on March 12. In other errors, did you catch my story on J-Mac who scored 20 points in the last four minutes of his high school basketball game? I mistakenly wrote he has gone on to coach football, but of course it is his great love, basketball, that he is coaching. I highly recommend his book, The Game of My Life. After I read that I took out a new book from our library, The Age of Autism, which I have almost finished and it is very informative. When I return it you can check it out and learn more about this disorder which is affecting so many of our family and friends. The last error was reporting our American Legion was hosting a prime rib night. I found out that was last month. Well, that’s why I’m a columnist, not a reporter.

Our library holds its monthly mini-book sale tomorrow from 1 to 3 p.m. While there, check out the Art in the Stacks exhibit featuring the work of Marshall Pratt and Inas Al-soqi. Kathy Forrester entertains the kiddies with spring songs, poems, and stories on Tuesday, March 22, 10 a.m. for infants to two year olds, 11 a.m. for the three to five set. Leslie Clapp and Diane Jetamund will inform you on the Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living, something for everyone, focussing on those 55 and older and getting the best services you can for staying in your own home. This talk will also be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the library. On that same night the free evening lecture at 7 p.m. is a panel of professionals discussing Slow Medicine, a plan for living well with the time we have left. And a tween time movie will be shown on Wednesday for ages eight to eleven at 3 p.m. The story? A villian who faces his arch enemy.

The Great decisions Discussion Group discusses the caucasuses on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m. in the program room. For more information call the library or contact fpa.org.

Belated birthday balloons go out to Robbie Manning for March 14.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Chris Kennedy, John Franzago, and Zachary Lawrence Donald today. Tomorrow is a party for Robbie’s Grandpa, Mr. Heine (I didn’t catch his first name). March 20 shines for Chuck Redington, Debbie Chickering, Dianne Norton, and Seth Edwin Donald. March 21 honors Barbara Dacey, Julie Robinson, Maureen Whiting, and Michelle Yates. March 22 is for Annette Anthony, Gabriel Nascimento, and Elizabeth Bennett. March 23 belongs to Allison Crews, Louise Tierney, and Casey Elizabeth Hendrickson. And on March 24 Babette Benoit, Ellie and Greta Hehre, and Corbyn Garza Clark take the cake. Many happy returns.
