The annual club Trap Championship will be held on Sunday, April 17, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club. Knolls Ward will be there to defend his 2010 title and give new contenders a run for their money.

The contest involves 50 targets using 12 or 20-gauge shotguns; scoring will be by the Lewis System, which allows for a champion and two class winners. This system allows shooters who compete to be challenged by people of their level and ability. Ties with highest scores will shoot off; the club will supply shoot-off targets only. The number of shooters in each class event will determine the number of classes. Eye and ear protection is mandatory.

The entry fee is $15. Prizes are also available for nonmembers who wish to compete.

Hot dogs, coffee, donuts and hot chocolate will be available throughout the day. The public is invited to attend, at no cost, to enjoy the competition. Take Third street off the Edgartown–Vineyard Haven Road to the Boulevard, turn right and take your first left into the club’s driveway.
