I think Mother Nature is confused. This is April so we have showers, but the wind should have been last month. But when the wind does not blow the weather is warm and the sunshine is welcome.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated this past week. Big balloons go out to Naomi Felix and Brant Maynard, who celebrated April 16; Sophia Grazioso, Kenneth Hatt and Sania Magaraci, who all celebrated April 17; Dyana Burke on April 18; Kamaree Egarr-Harris on April 19; Travis Viera on April 21; and Kyle Boyd, who celebrates his day today, April 22.

Double balloons go out to Mallory and Madeline D’Amato, who celebrated their first birthday on April 20. Mallory and Madeline are the granddaughters of Barbara Magnuson, and great-granddaughters of George and Priscilla Magnuson.

Jonathan Silvia and his sisters, Makenzie Jackson and Kyah Andrewski, are here visiting. Their grandfather and grandmother, Glenn and Rosemary Jackson, picked them all up in Maine. They arrived to celebrate Jonathan’s 16th birthday on April 17 at their grandparents Beth and Bill Erickson’s home. Great-grandparents Sonny and Gerry Jackson were present for the celebration along with Kayla Pachico and her daughter, Skyla, and Kayla’s boyfriend, Glenn Pinkham. Bill Ewart, Rosemary’s nephew, was also there for the celebration.

The Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living urges Vineyarders to participate in Sharky’s Dine to Donate Tuesday on April 26. The center for living will receive 15 per cent of the food sales from both Sharky’s locations in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Give mom a rest from cooking over that hot stove and the center for living will be grateful. Help the center achieve its goals to enrich the lives of Island seniors. Every Tuesday a different nonprofit organization is helped through this generous community effort by Sharky’s.

On May 3, ServSafe Food Sanitation Training and Recertification classes begin at Adult and Community Education of Martha’s Vineyard (ACE MV). The class taught by Alice Robinson is designed for safe food handling practices for food service personnel and anyone responsible for enforcement of the food sanitation code. There will be a mini-course for food vendors on Wednesday evening, May 25.

An introduction to children’s literature, a three-credit hybrid course taught by Cape Cod Community College professor John French, begins May 14 and ends June 25. Online preregistration is required. For more information call ACE MV at 508-693-1033 extension 240, or 774-310-1131 or e-mail lynn@acemv.org. More details and registration are online acemv.org.

It is great to see the lights on at the home of our neighbors Harry and Judy Stotz, who are here for the week from Connecticut. Judy told us they had 72 inches of snow, and in the downstairs of their house you could not see out of the window as the snow was that deep.

Wishing all a Happy Easter and Passover. Hope you are all able to visit with family and enjoy the day.

Have a great week, and keep the home candles burning.
