Please Adopt Us

The cat cages at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard are filling up so quickly that we know summer must be just around the corner. We have nine adult cats and two kittens who are all looking for new homes and people to love them. They are: Binx, a black and white cat with long white whiskers who has been at the shelter much too long and needs a loving home; Faith, a lovely short-haired black cat; Foxy Lady, a cat who was given up because her owner died and she is lonely for someone to love; Brown Bear, an unusual, lovely, dark brown Abyssinian-Siamese who is very friendly; Snowshoe, a female tabby and white with a striking white stripe on her face; Socks and Tammy, two older cats who were given up together because their owner relocated and could not take them; Chloe, a brindle and black cat who is shy and needs someone with the patience to care for her; and finally our two adorable black kittens, about eight weeks old, playful and fun-loving. Both are males; we have named them Chopin and Frankie.

The shelter has one rabbit, Thumper, who has just been neutered and loves to be cuddled. And Grace, the sweet guinea pig, needs a home too.

The rabies clinic held on April 2 was a great success — 106 dogs and 27 cats were vaccinated. The clinic will be held on the first Saturday in April every year.

Special bonus: Whoever adopts Socks and Tammy will receive free veterinary care from Dr. Connie Breese.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
