Chilmark has endured another long week of poor weather. As I write on Wednesday, though, the sun is out and the smiles are everywhere. It seems that this pattern will continue through our Memorial Day weekend and that will be very nice for all.

This Saturday the Chilmark Community Church will offer a Yard and Plant Sale at the Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be household goods for sale and, for the first time, they will offer lobster rolls to go.

Congratulations to Mark London and Linda Thompson as they celebrate the arrival of their grandson, Sebastian Mast, who was born in Brooklyn on May 18. His parents are Natasha and Rick Mast. Sebastian weighed in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces. He is most fortunate to be the son of Rick, who is one of the Mast Bros. who make a well-known chocolate. Cheers to all!

Please note that the first Chilmark Community Church flea market will be on June 29 at the field on North Road.

The Chilmark Library will begin summer hours on June 6 and these hours will continue until Sept. 3. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday will be full days and Thursday and Friday will be half days. Please call the library at 508-645-3360 if you have questions.

The Home Port Restaurant welcomes Seth Gambino as their new restaurant manager this year. The restaurant will be open to the public from today through the summer season.

Don Sexton returned to his South Road home after several months in the warmth of Mexico.

Charles and Marjorie Phillips are back at their Larsen Lane home for the coming seasons. They winter in Lexington, Va.

Ed Greenebaum and Joan Caulton have arrived from their home in Indiana for a stay at their Menemsha home.

Mary Anne Meyer and three friends, Jane Donley, Dee Holdren and Teresa Holdren, all of Houston, spent last weekend in Chilmark. Mary Anne has a long history with Chilmark and enjoyed showing her friends the charms of New England. Mel and Sharon Sherman of Port Salerno, Fla., who are touring the East in their motor home, joined them.

Rebecca Miller of North Tabor Farm tells us that they have salad greens and heirloom, cherry and hybrid tomato plants for sale at the farm stand on North Road.

Chilmark Democrats will sponsor a session on Medicare at the Chilmark Library on June 14. Zee Gamson, newly elected copresident of the group, is asking for volunteers to help her organize and present the program. If you can help, please give her a call at 508-645-3169.

The West Tisbury Bell Choir of the West Tisbury Congregational Church will host the Merrimack Valley Ringers. There are 17 ringers in the choir and they will present a varied program of music on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the West Tisbury church. A potluck supper will begin at 5:30 p.m. and all are invited to the supper and the concert at no charge. A freewill offering will be accepted.

We hope that as of this writing, Ethel Sherman will be at home, having been at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for a long spell recuperating from a fall that required hip surgery.

Cheers to you all for a happy, sunny, Memorial Day weekend.
