As towns across the Vineyard begin to rethink their commitment to the Community Preservation Act, the tiny town of Gosnold, made up of the Elizabeth Islands chain, is jumping on board.

At Monday’s annual town meeting, voters approved the formation of a community preservation committee after the town voted to accept the Community Preservation Act on its November ballot.

Taxpayers are assessed a three per cent surcharge on their property tax bill to fund the CPA which pays for affordable housing, historic preservation and open space. The state has matched the CPA funds to a declining extent in recent years.

Voters also agreed to join the Dukes County integrated pest management program as well as the Dukes County Vineyard Health Care Access program. The only article voted down on the 14-article warrant was a request to approve the preliminary design for the Cuttyhunk Public Library building.

In contested town election races Seth Garfield defeated Duane Lynch as highway surveyor and voters reelected Leo Roy, Bruce Borges and Lisa Wright as harbor committee members in a race that also featured Paula Dimare.

Voters also reelected Virginia Doran as selectman, Lisa Wright as town clerk and auditor, Sarah Smith as treasurer, Fran Veeder as tax collector, Gail Blout as library trustee, Asa Lombard 3rd as water commissioner, and Kathy Olsen as school committee member. Judith Archer also was elected as school committee member, replacing Tessa Olsen, who stepped down. William Benns was newly elected constable joining JohnPaul Hunter and Bruce Bagley who were reelected. All ran unopposed.
