The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the 2011-2012 Island Book cover art contest. All sixth graders were invited to submit their creations on the theme of Island Grown. The following artists were chosen:
Belle Dupon of the Martha’s Vineyard Charter School; Susa Breese of the Martha’s Vineyard Charter School; Brahmin Thurber-Carbone of West Tisbury School; Noah Hoyt of Oak Buffs School; Samuel Graber-Hahn of Tisbury School and Daniel Gaines of Edgartown School.
Each winner will receive a $100 United States Savings Bond in addition to having his or her entry appear on the cover of the 2011-2012 Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce Island Book.
In addition to the above winners, the Chamber has awarded 5 other students with honorable mentions. Their pictures will appear on the inside back cover of the 2011 Island Book: Lucy Enos, Edgartown School; Lean Hanschka, Martha’s Vineyard Charter School; Henry Wallace, Oak Bluffs School; Zachary Rydewski, Tisbury School; and Isabella Quinones, West Tisbury School.
The public is invited to see all the award winners, on display now through June 10 at Kennedy Studios, 66 Main street, Vineyard Haven. Store hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
