Island Grown Schools is looking to grow their coffers. All year long they’ve been planting seeds of good stewardship of the land and stomach in the hearts and minds of Island schoolchildren. From creating gardens to serving local lunches at Island schools, IGS has become a warmly welcomed fixture here. But all this good nutrition does cost money.

This Sunday, June 5, IGS is hosting a benefit dinner at State Road Restaurant in West Tisbury. Tickets are $100 for the 10-course meal starting at 6 p.m. The dinner features community tables, an Island grown seasonal menu, family style feast and an opportunity to meet students from the IGS program.

All proceeds go to IGS. Tickets are available in advance by calling 508-693-8582 or in person at the restaurant. Note, last year the event did sell out early. West Tisbury is a dry town but diners are invited to BYOB.

In addition, IGS is holding a plant sale fundraiser at the Oak Bluffs School on Friday, June 3, from 3 to 4 p.m. Vegetable, herb and flower seedlings grown by students in the school greenhouse will be available. All proceeds will benefit the school garden, greenhouse and a new student-designed chicken coop which will supply fresh eggs for the school cafeteria.
