Please Adopt Us

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has one kitten left available for adoption; he is a darling orange and white tiger and may be gone by the time you read this column.

We still have a great many adult cats — some are quite young, like Annabelle, a year-old tuxedo black and white who is a little shy but loves attention and needs to be socialized to help with her shyness. Faith is another very sweet young black cat who is quite sociable. Fisher is another black male kitty, and Binx is our old-timer who has been at the shelter the longest and really needs a good home. Maxine is a tabby; Foxy Lady another tabby; Chloe is a brindle and black cat; and Rascal is an older tabby who needs some loving care.

Please consider adopting an older cat — they really do make wonderful pets. Some were strays and probably some were abandoned or given up for many different reasons. We love to place our adult cats because we know what appreciative animals they are when given a lot of attention and a soft bed all their own.

We have two guinea pigs now — Grace and Daisy — charming critters for some young person — and one beautiful bunny named Boo, a dwarf black and white who loves to be held and cuddled. And last but not least there is Hamlet, the Siberian dwarf hamster who was abandoned by the dumpster, complete with a beautiful cage. He was saved from a tragic outcome and we would love to see him go to a loving home.

Please drop by the shelter to see all of our wonderful animals. If you would like to volunteer a couple of hours a week, please give your name to our shelter manager, Lisa.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
